Need a Body Scrub? Grab your Coffee Grounds

Ah, coffee. A drink so beloved, that most people can’t make it to work without a cup of it in their hand. Before you dump the grounds that are left behind in your coffee maker, listen up, because they have a skincare benefit that you may be missing out on.

Perhaps one of the best uses for those coffee grounds is an excellent (and natural) body exfoliant.

According to a 2013 study, the caffeic acid in coffee promotes healthy skin by increasing collagen levels and reducing premature aging of the cells, making the skin look younger. Caffeine also has a tightening effect, reducing the appearance of pores and cellulite.

Coffee grounds also do not dissolve in water, which makes it the perfect gritty exfoliant to remove dead skin cells.

Creating this DIY exfoliating scrub is simple and requires only three ingredients: coffee grounds, brown sugar, and coconut oil. Combine one-quarter cup of coffee grounds and one-quarter cup of brown sugar into a small bowl. Add enough coconut oil to the mixture for your desired consistency.

Doesn’t it sound yummy? Use the scrub a few days a week after washing your body. If you have any left over, make sure to save it in a travel bottle for next time!
